Dr. Roberta Bogaev Chapman is a physician scientist and cardiovascular leader whose career has been dedicated to advancing therapies for patients with advanced heart failure and cardiogenic shock. She current serves as Vice President of Heart Recovery at Johnson & Johnson MedTech, where she directs global clinical and translational research strategies focused on myocardial recovery, mechanical circulatory support, and escalation algorithms in acute and chronic heart failure.
Dr. Chapman earned her mechanical engineering degree from Virginia Tech and her medical degree from the University of Virginia where she completed her postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology with a subspecialty focus on advanced heart failure and transplant. Dr. Chapman has over two decades of leadership experience serving as the Medical Director of Heart Transplantation at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio and at Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas where she was faulty at Baylor College of Medicine and directed the heart failure fellowship training program. Prior to joining Abiomed, Dr. Chapman served as Medical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Program and Chief of Cardiology for Bon Secours Mercy Health in Virginia. She plays a pivotal role in designing and executing landmark clinical trials and translational programs that shape standards of care in acute decompensated and chronic heart failure, high-risk PCI, and mechanical circulatory support. Her work emphasizes data-driven precision medicine, regulatory alignment, and patient-centric innovation.
Dr. Chapman is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the Heart Failure Society of America (FHFSA). She is widely respected for her commitment to mentorship, physician leadership development, and bridging clinical insight with MedTech strategy. Her professional purpose is rooted in integrity, authenticity, and service to others – advancing therapies that restore both heart function and human hope.
