Dr. Mohamed Riad Abouzid, MD, is a Cardiology Fellow at HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston and a graduate of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. He previously served as a Research Fellow in the Department of Molecular Cardiology at the University of Louisville, where he built a strong foundation in translational and clinical cardiovascular research.
Dr. Abouzid has an extensive academic portfolio that includes numerous publications in meta-analyses, systematic reviews, cross-sectional studies, and case reports. His work has been presented at major national and international cardiology conferences, including an oral presentation on early ECMO intervention in infarct-related cardiogenic shock at the Houston Shock Symposium. He was honored with the Outstanding Research Award (2023–2024) during his residency in recognition of his scholarly productivity and leadership in research.
Clinically, Dr. Abouzid has a strong interest in advanced heart failure, cardiac critical care, and interventional cardiology. He gained significant experience managing patients with cardiogenic shock and mechanical circulatory support devices, including ECMO and Impella, during his intensive care training. He is particularly passionate about echocardiography and electrocardiography education and has led structured ECG interpretation sessions and research methodology workshops for residents.
Dr. Abouzid is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular care through clinical excellence, innovation in research, and mentorship in medical education. His long-term career goal is to specialize in cardiac critical care and contribute to the evolving field through both patient care and academic leadership.
