Dr. Manish Kanubhai Patel, M.D., F.A.C.S. serves as Surgical Chief of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in the Department of Advanced Cardiopulmonary Therapies and Transplantation (ACTAT) and Associate Professor of Surgery at McGovern Medical School, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. His clinical expertise emcompases heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support , advanced heart failure surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery including VATS and lobectomy, peripheral vascular surgery, and aortic surgery.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from Pramukh Swami Medical College in Gujarat, India, and completed extensive postgraduate training in general surgery at Wayne State University and Western Reserve Care System, followed by thoracic surgery residency at the Texas Heart Institute – Baylor College of Medicine. He further specialized with a fellowship in Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support at the Texas Heart Institute.
Board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Patel has been in practice since 1998. He is an active researcher and educator with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has served as co-investigator on numerous clinical trials in heart transplantation, LVAD therapy, and transcatheter valve replacement.
