Ismael Alejandro Salas De Armas, MD, FACS, FAOA, is an Associate Professor and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) McGovern Medical School, where he serves as Director of the Arrhythmia Surgery Division within the Center for Advanced Heart Failure. Board certified in both General and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr. Salas De Armas specializes in advanced mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, heart and lung transplantation, and arrhythmia surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital Texas Medical Center. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and is an internationally recognized speaker on cardiogenic shock, percutaneous ventricular assist devices, and extracorporeal life support. Dr. Salas De Armas and his program have earned the ELSO Platinum Award of Excellence for two consecutive terms in recognition of outstanding ECMO outcomes
